Public Policy and the ‘Single Girl’: The Conservative Right vs. Planned Parenthood
When: Monday, October 1 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
Where: Auditorium Mayo Memorial
What: Desiree Cooper returns to the Twin Cities to provide her unique perspective on recent political controversies over women’s health, and contraception rights. Ms. Cooper, a lawyer and former print and radio journalist, is currently director of community and media relations for Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan. Cooper was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize when she was a columnist for the Detroit Free Press where she championed racial and economic justice, women’s rights and child welfare. She was the winner of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s 1998 Maggie Award for her coverage of the 25th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. She has been a frequent commentator for National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered” and for the BBC’s “Americana.”

Sexual Assault – It’s Not Your Fault
When: Wednesday, October 3 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
Where: 268 Kirby Student Center (KSC)
What: Part of the Women’s Resource and Action Center (WRAC) Brown Bag series.  Presented by Em Westerlund from the Program to Aid Victims of Sexual Assault (PAVSA).

Goal Setting for Women
When: Wednesday, October 3 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
Where: G55 Peik Gym
What: Speaker: Lolita Davis Carter, OHR Personnel Specialist, and Social Concerns committee member of the Civil Service Senate. The energetic Ms. Carter will inspire us with the step-by-step process she used to obtain her supervisor’s support toward her goals, including her participation in the University Senate. Learn to create manageable steps toward your own goals and dreams!

Women Faculty of Color Luncheon
When: Thursday, October 4 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
Where: Board Room (4-300D) Carlson School of Management
What: Join other women faculty of color at the University to network, to share resources and strategies, and to learn about additional opportunities. RSVP required online: z.umn.edu/wfoc12.
