ICYMI: Event Wrap-Up

In addition to our signature events, the Women’s Center partners with other campus and community organizations, departments and units to provide engaging and educational programs and initiatives about women’s and gender equity and social justice. In addition, Women’s Center staff try to have a presence at similar events sponsored by our colleagues and allies. In case you missed it, here’s an event wrap-up from the last couple of weeks:

The Women’s Center has co-sponsored a couple of great events in the last few weeks: Reproductive Justice and AAPI Women w/Miriam Yeung, Executive Director of the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (September 25) and Girl in a Coma: Artist Talk and Screening (September 30).

On September 27, we hosted our annual Celebrating University Women Awards Program, which honors recipients of Women’s Center awards, grants and scholarships. Nearly 200 people came to support some of the accomplished scholars, dedicated mentors and emerging leaders here at the University. Katie Eichele, Director of the Aurora Center for Advocacy & Education, gave a moving and inspirational talk entitled, “From Fear to Fearless,” which we later heard resonated with so many people in attendance. Women of Color Conference Brainstorming Ideas

The 2nd Women of Color Student Conference is coming on March 29-30, 2014. Our planning committee, filled with amazing and dynamic people, met on October 2 to get this exciting event underway. We generated so many ideas; if we can incorporate even half of them into the conference, it will be a stellar event! Save the date; we hope you will join us!
