Women’s Cancer: Making Sense of Hormones

Ada Comstock postcard This year’s Ada Comstock Distinguished Women Scholars Award Lecture features Professor Carol A. Lange, from the departments of Medicine and Pharmacology at the University of Minnesota. Professor Lange’s lecture, Women’s Cancer: Making Sense of Hormones, offers presents an overview of her latest research on women’s hormones and breast cancer, in particular how estrogen and progesterone receptors act differently in breast cancer cells versus how they act in normal breast tissue. Her research team seeks to understand how hormones send out-of-context “GROW signals” to cancer cells, i.e. telling them to grow inappropriately. A better understanding of how hormone receptors interact with each other and with their target genes will facilitate the development of improved treatments for breast cancer. This lecture is free and open to the public. RSVP here and join us on Monday, October 27, at 4 pm in the Cowles Auditorium at the Humphrey School.
